Day 14: Hakadote to Sapporo 408 km 20°C - 11.5°C

Looking out on a fine day
And the bullet train station.
Trains come through an undersea tunnel to Hakodate.

Hokkaido is 43° latitude
Spring is in the air, lots of blossom
Its cool enough  to stop and put another layer on.

The road varies from country roads to dual carriageway.
Tolled most of the way. ¥4630 ($NZ64), it’s a filter, we think
Because there is not much trafffic in either direction.

Lots of forest scenes, pastoral farming, lakes
Signs warning of foxes and bears
Superb service from the petrol station staff.

An easy ride into Sapporo
And a wonderful welcome at the hotel
So lovely that we decide to stay an extra day.

Maybe you are thinking
Where is the map?
It’s at the end of the post.
