Pearls On Wheels

A perfect day for a ride to the West Fjords. Goodbye to Olafsvik, Goodbye to the grey skies, Goodbye to the Snaefellsnes peninsula, Goodbye to Snaefellsjokull  - the glacier immortalised in Jules Vernes 'Journey to the Centre of the Earth'. Hello sunshine, sapphire seascapes, unpaved roads,  Hello the Westfjord region. Come, ride with us.   Stykkisnolmur harbour     Bakkari are filled with all kinds of treats.  Just looking, thanks... Rugged escarpments. Sometimes waterfalls appear to drop from the sky.   We ride 67km of good unpaved roads today.   Farming at the extreme latitudes.   Crossing Gilsfjodur. Nearly home.    Home sweet home. This little house reminds me of our Team Kiwi home at Buckshot Betty's near the Alaskan border.     Complete with our own little glacier.   Cod of the day... Cod coated with sunflower, pumpkin and sesame seeds.  Lots of vegetables today. A perfect day on the road...

'Northland, Highway and Sky' sung by  David Lyle Morri s was the first song of the day that popped into my helmet on random shuffle this morning. In this song our friend David is singing about Northland, the winter-less north in New Zealand.  It was lovely to hear his voice as we rode along the highways alongside the North Atlantic Ocean  in the chilly summer with the temperature around 10-12 degC most of the day. It prompted me to think about how blessed we are to live in a wonderful country, New Zealand, with wonderful friends; and  how blessed we are to be able visit so many other places on earth and make new friends.   The church at Hellnar.
