Cape Leeuwin to Albany
Mella is waiting outside in the cold, ready to get going to the most South Westerly Cape in Australia, Cape Leeuwin. We set off from our cosy room at Bridgefields* and rode south through vineyards, forests and farmland to Cape Leeuwin. It is very cold, 13.5degC plus windchill. I have plugged in my heated jacket for the first time on this trip. I have also put on my inner waterproof jacket liner and my winter bike gloves. With all this extra gear on it is not so easy to leap onto the bike seat. The lighthouse is at the point where the Southern Ocean and the indian Oceans meet. The Indian Ocean does not look as enticing as it did at Coral Bay a few days ago. Some map checking before we begin our eastward journey... which takes us through hundreds of Km of tall karri trees... and rain-saturated green farmland... to Albany where we stayed at Dog Rock motel. * Our accommodation at Bridgefields a historic coaching inn...
